ANCHORAGE – Friday was the day that at least five woman got justice against former APD officer Anthony Rollins.

Judge Philip Volland sentenced the 44-year-old to a grand total of 151.5 years, but 87 years actual time.

The state, which asked for 203 years behind bars, said that because Alaska leads the nation in sexual assaults a maximum sentence for Rollins was what the community needed to hear.

Rollins requested he be sentenced the minimum amount of time possible and that he be detained in a facility that offers treatment, but the state said he was unfixable.

Friday was a long day at the Nesbett Courthouse, after ten hours in a packed courtroom.

Rollins was convicted of serial rape in February of 2011 and was finally sentenced after his sentencing was pushed back six times; an issue that Volland said was partially due to personal medical issues.

Despite the conclusion of what Volland said is the worst sexual assault cases he has seen on the bench, the community and APD have much more healing to do.

“The Anthony Rollins case is a case that just won't go away. I fear the damage done will never go away,” said Chief Mark Mew.

A victim’s father stood up and made an emotional statement and said APD dropped the ball. Letters of testimony followed his statement from others who were negatively impacted by Rollins.

Rollins told the court that he had previously helped raise $1,000 for the organization Standing Together Against Rape (STAR), as well as claimed he received an award from the organization.

In sentencing the judge addressed that claim and said that Rollins' statement sounded more like a resume.

As he walked out of the courtroom, dressed in a standard yellow jumpsuit and shackles he walked into the rest of his life, which will be spent on the other side of the law.

It would be cruel and unusual punishment to place a convicted police officer in a general prison population. Ask G. Gordon Liddy (who was placed in a heavily black prison after his Watergate conviction. I don't think Rollins is as tough as Mr. Liddy proved to be. Suggest you read "Will", by G. Gordon Liddy)

Stop! The guy got 87 years in Prison withoutn the chance of parole. He will not walk out of there alive. What more do you want? The victims will sue Anchorage and get paid. They deserve the money too! What are your secrets (sins)? Will you want a little mercy?

not enough time whatsoever. He should have at the very least received the maximum sentence..... he had willingly and knowingly abused his power and position.

he was paid by the public , to protect the public , yet he serial raped the public . whats the question ? string him up ! after , if , he survives the equal treatment due back to him ! cops should have to sign a waiver , of life , when they become ' THE LAW ' stating " if i prey upon those i have sworn to protect , i forfeit my life in return my unlawful , inhumane acts ." the same for any authoritarian who abuses the people under their supervision .

I know the women he abused will never look at police officers in the same light again. But hopefully each night while other prisoners are doing to him what he did to others he will remember all of this started because his ego got the best of him
