ANCHORAGE - The countdown is on for the big game -- the Super Bowl is now less than one week away. And if you are having a party it might be best to plan ahead, especially if the menu includes some traditional fare.

At the Wings and Things restaurant in midtown Anchorage, they are used to cooking up a storm. But Super Bowl Sunday is when things really get hot. Last year the restaurant sold 4,000 pounds of wings, all for take-out or delivery. Manager Tambi Vandervoet recommended ordering early.

“Best to get your orders in now, absolutely,” said Vandervoet. "You can always order on Sunday as well, but it’s helpful to get the flow going a little bit better to get those orders in as soon as possible.”

Another business selling big for game day is Excalibur Sports in the Northway Mall.

Owner Phil Robertson said the San Francisco 49ers have the edge when it comes to local fans, probably because they are a West Coast team. The shop sells everything from banners to jerseys, and sales have definitely increased prior to game day.

But while looking good is important, watching well is too. At the Best Buy in South Anchorage customers are looking for big screens to view the game. Manager Ron Coco says they have some really large screens for really big fans.

“The largest television overall that we would sell would be upwards of 120 to 140 inches from Panasonic,” said Coco. “That tv ranges anywhere from 60 to 100 thousand dollars, but it has free shipping!”

Perhaps it’s a bargain for a Super Bowl fan, or the next best thing to being there.

The game airs this Sunday, February 2, on KTVA, with festivities kicking off at 2 p.m.
