Fairbanks-Stationed Soldier Death Under Investigation

A New York City soldier stationed in Fairbanks died early Monday in Kandahar, Afghanistan; the cause of his death is under investigation.

A New York City soldier stationed at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks died early Monday in Kandahar, Afghanistan; the cause of his death is under investigation.

Infantryman Pvt. Danny Chen, 19, was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Fort Wainwright.

He joined the Army in January 2011, arrived at Fort Wainwright in May, and deployed to Afghanistan in August as a replacement in the 3rd Bn, 21st Infantry Regiment.

U.S. Army officials say his death is under investigation and that next of kin have been notified.
