FAIRBANKS — While Fairbanks was celebrating Golden Days Saturday and Sunday, Fairbanks police detectives were shuttling between three gun violence crime scenes. The three incidents, which police say are not related, took place in about a 12-hour period and claimed the life of a 19-year-old man and injured two others. Suspects have been detained in two of the shootings.
• Police have released little information about the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man just after midnight Sunday morning in South Fairbanks.
The man has been identified, but police were not releasing his name as of Sunday evening, said Lt. Matt Soden with the Fairbanks police department. The shooting occurred inside a home on 22nd Avenue near Cowles Street and the man was dead when police arrived. Police believe a handgun was used, Soden said.
No one had been arrested in this case as of Sunday night, Soden said.
• In a domestic violence case in the Birchwood Homes area that allegedly led to a man firing on a marked police SUV, a man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder.
Police believe the shooter was Robert D. Carlson, 28. At 4:28 a.m., Fairbanks police received a call from a woman who said a man punched her multiple times outside a home on Nunivak Loop and said the man went back inside and grabbed a gun, according to a Fairbanks police news release. The woman was Carlson’s domestic partner, Soden said Soden. A neighbor reported the incident.
A Fairbanks police officer said Carlson fired multiple bullets from an upstairs window when police arrived and said one struck the patrol vehicle. Carlson came out and was arrested “after a brief period of time,” according to the news release.
• In a double-injury shooting reported Saturday afternoon at 29 Glacier Avenue, No. 1, in Hamilton Acres, Fairbanks police have released the names of the alleged shooter and victims.
The shooter suspect, who was arrested on the charge of first-degree felony assault was identified as Christian A. Williams, 19.
A man who was shot in the chest and placed in the intensive care unit was identified as Devante R. Woods, 19. Police received word that Woods made it through surgery, Soden said. A man who was shot in the arm was identified as Olajahwon R. Quint, 18.
