Fairbanks Man Dies in Elliott Highway Motorcycle Crash; Wife Injured

FAIRBANKS - A Fairbanks man was killed and his wife was injured in a motorcycle accident late Saturday afternoon on the Elliott Highway.

Michael Ferguson, 53, and his wife Dawn, 49, were traveling south on the Elliott, returning to Fairbanks, at about 6 p.m. when their 2002 Honda Goldwing went off the road during a right turn near milepost 20, according to the Alaska State Troopers.

According to trooper spokeswoman Beth Ipsen, the stretch of road is asphalt chip seal with new frost heave bumps. The corner had a recommended speed of 45 mph, but the motorcycle was believed to be going about 55 when it went off the road. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

Michael Ferguson was not wearing a helmet and was declared dead at the scene, Ipsen said. His wife was wearing a helmet and was taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital where she was being treated for broken bones and other injuries.

I am so sorry for the loss tho sometimes speed limits are there for a reason & helmets as well...

It is a sad day when one must go to the internet to learn local news. I always considered Channel ll "my channel" but since I no longer can receive local news in the morning and on weekend nights, I have resorted to Channel 2, NBC, and, as a result, I am finding more interesting programs and comments on channels other than my prior staple, KTVA. I am sorry that KTVA doesn't doesn't have the loyalty to their viewers that their viewers have had to KTVA.
