ANCHORAGE - A Fairbanks family is taking an unconventional route to selling their house by holding a national essay contest.
The Bergstrom family says the five-level, four-bedroom house is too big for them, and they want to sell it for a hundred dollars to the person with the best essay on why he or she deserves the house.
The family is hoping for at least 3,000 entries by April 30 in order to get the full value for the house.
The top 10 essays will be posted on Facebook, where users can vote on the top application.
“We're just trying to be creative and helping somebody get a house and at the same time getting what the house is worth, so it's kind of a win-win for everybody,” Latisha Bergstrom said.
If they don't get at least 3,000 entries, the family says everyone will get their money back, and the property will be placed on the market the traditional way.
