FAIRBANKS - A sixth-grade student died from injuries sustained when he was struck by a vehicle Tuesday morning.

Jamison Thrun, 11, was pronounced dead at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital at 8:55 p.m. Tuesday.

Yiki Kim, who was at the wheel of a 2005 Toyota Highlander, drove through a stop sign on Birch Lane at Loftus Road and struck Thrun, who was with a crossing guard on his way to University Park Elementary School, just a block away from the school’s parking lot.

The accident was reported around 8:20 a.m., and responders transported Thrun to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was placed on life support there and his family was notified.

Kim, 68, was arrested on charges of reckless driving and manslaughter. An arraignment scheduled for 1:30 p.m. today at the Rabinowitz Court House was postponed until Thursday.

So very sad, no words can possibly help ease the pain of that boy's family but still I'd like to offer my sorrow and prayers to the family. I hope Kim is served a just and proper sentence for this tragic atrocity.
