According to municipal ordinance, if the conviction is five years old, rapists are allowed to get chauffeur’s license--if they don't have to register as sex offenders
I thougth one was innocent until proven guilty. If you are guilty then you shoulld have to pay the price. I think this will encourage accusations of sexual misconduct without merit and cost cab drivers economic harm unjustly.

More people commit sexual assault than are accused. More people are accused of sexual assault than are charged. More are charged than are indicted. More are indicted than tried. More are tried than convicted.
Denying a licence only removes the small fraction of bad apples who are caught and eventually convicted.
If the law would make the dispatch company and cab owner strictly liable for damages arising of the misconduct of those they contract to drive, then they will be careful to hire only those who are above suspicion.

What ever happen to sowing wild oats when young and growing up . Prisons are filled with people made felons with three dui's committed while young. ....but this forty some is up in years and have not learned and need to be put behind bars for a while.

It seems that people are forgetting the purpose of punishment...pay a debt for a crime against societal rules. While I sympathize with the victims, you cant judge ALL people of a certain crime because of reactive attitudes. Its sad some think sex offenders cant change, but feel drug addicts or gamblers can. Sex offenses are horrible, and these men should be punished. But what of the sex offender who has not reoffended for 20 years? Isnt that proof of rehabilitation? Its a proven fact that sex offenders have the LOWEST recidivism rates OF ALL CRIMES! But people dont want to admit that. They are too busy wanting to continue the punishment...for life. This mitigates against all laws WE passed! Take away the rights of one group is but a step away from taking the rights away from others ad infintum. Sure, no one likes sex offenses, but we ONE DAY must let these people live some sort of life once their debt is paid. Otherwise they will become a burden...or worse--reoffenders via frustration
