Volunteers prepare to rebuild the village of Crooked Creek after flooding earlier this spring devastated the area.
The Crooked Creek Disaster Housing Task Force is made up of federal agencies, state groups and non-profit volunteers preparing to replace nine homes in the flood-ravaged village. They'll do everything from replacing the gravel pads to constructing customized cold weather housing. The task force aspires to complete the reconstruction by October 15. "That's really the goal: To make sure that the people that are affected by these disasters can have some place to live in their community by the time the snow flies," said Jeremy Zidek of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. Volunteers from Samaritan's Purse are scheduled to arrive in Crooked Creek in August. |
