Early Morning Shooting Injures Cab DriverMichael Blackwell, 21, is being held without bail facing charges of attempted murder, first degree assault and possessing a stolen firearm.Related Content
A Yellow Cab driver sustained minor injuries after he was shot in the stomach early this morning in West Anchorage . James Gregory, 30, had called the Anchorage Police Department to report a suspicious person on the 4300 block of Cope Street shortly after 4:30 a.m. The suspect, 21-year-old Michael Blackwell, had been prowling around a vehicle when Gregory approached him. After Blackwell told the driver he lived in the neighborhood, he ducked behind a residence, returned with a shotgun and shot Gregory in the abdomen. Witnesses said he then began walking up the street and firing the gun into the air, and police found him nearby shortly thereafter. Blackwell is being held without bail facing charges of attempted murder, first degree assault and possession of a stolen firearm. |

Sort of tough to hide and keep a low profile when you're blasting off a shotgun. Especially when not many folks out at 4:30am. Wonder what his story/excuse was to the Police?

APD is not the joke, our system of "Justice" is the joke. Violent criminals need be in prison forever. Even if it means building one out on some island where they cannot escape. Violent criminals are worse than scum and dont deserve to exist!

There are good cops and then there are other cops. To be fair these officers have to live here too and just shooting someone for the three days off with pay would be noticed after a while.. what is unfortunate is after a while the officers who are good at kissing up and kicking down will be the ones promoted and the good officers will be charlie shifters... there really are good officers out there.

Thanks James Gregory, Thanks for looking out for others and trying to keep Alaska a great place to live. I hope your wounds heal quickly. James just didn't ignore the suspicious behavior he acted on his instincts. If more people would stand up and call in suspicious behavior we can put the bad people away and have a safer place to live.

RJ u can go to the crimestoppers website, it may say on one of the links. also courtview which i've seen mentioned on the adn comments. this is one of the best picking up of pieces after an emergency that i've seen in the news for awhile. thank God JG survived and mb is IN JAIL, NO BAIL!

a criminal element with a rap sheet, you complain all the time about APD. Research shows a high percentage of "complaints" come from people with a past record.Sneaking around buildins at 4:30 in the morning is very suspicious.Probably looking for an easy apt. target to rob.Get real JAck!
