EAGLE RIVER – Two girls were attacked by what neighbors described as a moose cow on Monday evening in Eagle River.

Police responded shortly before 6 p.m. to calls that an 11- and 6-year-old were being trampled on a home playground on the 18900 block of Sokolof Circle.

The 11-year-old sustained head injuries, but was released at the scene, police said. The 6-year-old was rushed to Providence with severe injuries to her arms and back.

The moose got spooked, police said, and got caught in a swing set, pulling it down on top of the 11-year-old. It then got loose and trampled the 6-year-old, police said.

It’s unclear what will happen to the moose, but police say it is still on the loose.
