A last minute concert cancellation has left some people in the lurch. The Blue Jeans on the Green Concert featuring country star Dwight Yoakam was supposed to take place in the Anchorage Sports Dome on Saturday, but Anchorage’s fire marshal has declared it a no-go.
Fire marshal James Gray says the facility is not permitted to hold concerts, especially the type that organizers had planned.
“At this particular event they were proposing a beer garden-they had food venders and it wasn’t just a concert,” says Gray. “It was an all-day event that had people coming and going.”
It’s an event that Blues Central has hosted for years at Kincaid Park but this year they
wanted to take their act indoors.
“We were really excited to go into a facility that we could still say was “on the green,” says Blues Central’s Bob Winn. “Because of its size, people would be able to bring in their chairs and their blankets and we could do the concert in the same style the way it had always been.”
At least a thousand tickets were sold but organizers say everyone will get a refund.
Tickets that were bought online can get a refund online. Blues Central plans to pay other ticket holders back but asks they wait until at least Wednesday so the bar can figure out how it will distribute the money.
