What appeared to be a major structure fire earlier today turned out to be nothing more than a dryer fire at residential treatment facility in Spenard.
All 20 Akeela House residents were evacuated after reports of a fire shortly after 10 a.m. Saturday. Firefighters arrived at the scene within minutes but were unable to locate the source of the blaze. After searching the residence, they discovered that the dryer fire had actually been extinguished by the home sprinkler system. "Because there was no obvious fire showing from the outside we went in to investigate. When we discovered that there was a fire that was extinguished, our priority then was to make sure there wasn't any fire extension [and] make sure all the people were out of the building," said firefighter Capt. Robert St. Clair. There were no injuries and firefighters say the house sustained only minor damage. |

Thank God they had an automatic fire sprinkler system. Those residents would be without a home otherwise; never mind the potential for injury or loss of life by a resident or fire fighter.

who thought of the headline for this article. "...sparks...fire..." thank God everyone got out of the bldg alive and for the akeela house staff's fire wise-ness.
