In July, Anchorage police officer Jennifer Pierce was seriously injured in a near head-on collision on the Glenn Highway.

Police said she had been pinned inside her vehicle when a 2007 BMW driving the opposite direction spun out of control, crossed the median and slammed into her patrol car.

Sunday, 21-year-old Jariss Black was charged with assault, reckless driving, driving without a license and driving while intoxicated.

According to charging documents, Black had been speeding at nearly 130 mph when he lost control of his vehicle, and toxicology reports revealed high levels of carboxy-THC in his bloodstream.

Anchorage Police Department spokesman Lt. Dave Parker said Black had remained out of custody while traffic detectives awaited the results of the toxicology report. The investigation was concluded last week, and Black turned himself in Saturday.

"I don't know if the victim was here or not, but I just wanted to apologize to her,” Black told the courtroom at his arraignment.

His bail was set at $50,000.

If convicted, he faces up to 20 years behind bars and a $250,000 fine.

Chicago? Don't understand that statement. What he did was wrong and dangerous and that is why he turned himself in. Thank God the cop was fine and she returned back to work. Talk what you know don't assume the worst of the situation. By the way he doesn't have a record a mile long...its public record check your facts!

A couple of additional points: I didn't make this about the alleged use of an illegal substance. I made it about accountability and someone who used this forum to further a personal agenda. One of which, some here might condone. Also, cops and other civil servants are not special, however they are the ones that respond when people cannot handle personal responsibility. Perhaps if this cop was your sibling, parent, or child you may make this more about the pain the driver caused rather then a legal beef about drug use. As for “end the drug war” knowing more about the law: I doubt it, you just agree with him/her. Lastly, perhaps he’s just a bad driver you ask? Bad drivers just make mistakes – they don’t drive130mph. People who don’t care about others do. My advice to you - Slow down.

Jeez Chris, chill! First off, you make it sound like hitting a cop was worse somehow. A life is a life, cops aren't special, sorry. Second, the THC issue needs to be clarified, because as the other person commented, there are no accepted test standards for it. Beyond that, the guy was doing 130 and didn't have a license. Who knows exactly why he lost control. Most Beemers handle nicely at 130. Maybe he smoked pot, maybe he's just a bad driver. Maybe he hit a cat and lost traction. Don't get your panties all in a bunch because someone is smarter than you about the law.

That's what you take away from this incident? This moron risked everyone else he encountered on the road that night, let alone a peace officer. It doesn't take a lab tech to realize this jerk was incapable of managing the responsibility of keeping his car between the lines of his own lane. Save your argument for your occupy wall street pals.

F A C T: there is NO standardized test that can determine the level of impairment for THC. all they can find is that you have used marijuana at some point in the past day, weeks, months.unlike alcohol breathalyzers which determine the amount of alcohol you have in your blood and then use a pre determined scale based on the amount to determine your level of intoxication. drug tests are a sham. they do not measure any levels of impairment.
