Anchorage police have arrested a woman in connection with the hit-and-run accident that killed 28-year-old Hubert Tunuchuk Easter Sunday in East Anchorage.

Ashley Bashore, 19, was taken into custody at 5:55 p.m Wednesday. Lt. Dave Parker, a spokesman for the Anchorage Police Department, said a grand jury indictement earlier in the evening had charged her with leaving the scene of an accident with an injury, criminally negligent homocide and tampering with physical evidence.

According to police, the eight-month delay between the accident and Bashore's arrest was due to the need to process DNA and other evidence. They say the delay was also due to the fact prosecutors wanted to run the case by a grand jury before making an arrest.

Bashore's bail has been set at $2,500, with a requirement for a third-party custodian and that she not be able to drive.

If she'd been growing pot, that "evil killing substance that kills so many people every day" her bail would be half a million. What a joke the local (and national) justice system is!

Lets not forget the person she killed was inebriated and walking in the street at 3am in April when its still dark at night. Also she did not buy justice, bright one, she put up collateral saying that she will not skip town until her trial is over. Lastly shes not growing pot, her family is.

Billy says- "Lets not forget the person she killed was inebriated and walking in the street at 3am in April when its still dark at night." So he was at fault? All the more reason for anyone who hit him to STOP and try to render aid. Speed limit up there is what- 45? So at that speed, slamming on the brakes would have helped a lot. That's a well lit bridge. Could it be she was drinking a bit too? Or high? Or even as they claim, distracted by texting and not watching the road. No matter how wrong he was to be drunk and in the road (if he was in fact in the road), she still is overwhelmingly at fault, not for hitting him maybe, but for leaving the scene and for trying to cover it up and lying about it. As for the bail amount, seems low considering she already 'skipped out' once, what's to say she wouldn't do it again? Not much to lose by trying, she's facing 20 years.
