UPDATE - The Unified Command reports the Kulluk arrived safely at Kiliuda Bay, where it will eventually be anchored and assessed.
ANCHORAGE - Alaska's Department of Environmental Conservation reported the Shell drilling rig Kulluk, once grounded on rocks near Kodiak, was refloated at 10:10 p.m. Sunday night.
The Kulluk is being towed by the Aiviq toward Kiliuda Bay, with a spill response vessel, the Nanuq, monitoring the water surface for signs of fuel using a forward-looking infrared thermal imaging system.
The Unified Command in charge of the Kulluk rescue reported the Kulluk remained in tow by the Aiviq at 9 a.m. Monday, traveling at 3.5 knots in a northerly direction, and was about 4 nautical miles away from its planned destination in Kiliuda Bay. A Coast Guard overflight is scheduled as soon as daylight and weather allow.
