Dozens of Animals Seized From Eagle River Home

At least 30 dogs and several parakeets were fseized this afternoon from an Eagle River home, according to the Anchorage Police Department.

Lt. Dave Parker, a spokesman for the department, said the landlord of a house on the 1600 block of Hanson Drive contacted Animal Care and Control around 2:00 p.m. to report the animals.

Lester Mendez, 46, and Daniel Hoffman, 50, have been arrested on animal cruelty charges.

Parker said the investigation is ongoing, and animal control officers will work to find the animals new homes after completing their inventory.

Were the animals well taken care of? What condition was the home? Why did they take them away? What sort of cruelty? More story please. Just because a landlord calls to report an animal welfare case does not mean the animals were in peril.
