ANCHORAGE - Rumrunners Bar and Grill apparently closed its doors for good Sunday evening.

The Alcoholic and Beverage Control Board said the bar has had excessive violations over the past few years. One bouncer was accused of assaulting customers, and the bar itself received 27 violations since 2005 for things like serving underaged or drunk customers.

Assembly Chair Ernie Hall says the bar was a problem for the Downtown area, and he hopes to see a new business in that location soon.

“Another good restaurant downtown would be great. We need that in our Downtown district, but by the same token it's got to be a safe place for people to come and the Rumrunners operation was not that,” said Hall.

The Anchorage Assembly will discuss what should be done about Rumrunners liquor license at its regular meeting Tuesday night. Rumrunners wanted to see and transfer the license to T.G.I. Fridays while some assembly members say the bar should lose it altogether.

What the article forgets to mention is how many lawsuits have been filed against this place, all relating to abusive practices by the bouncers. The owner(s) will attempt to posture as being above it all, and blame the bouncers, who were trained and encouraged to be aggressive. Should be interesting.
