Stopping the illegal wars would be a great beginning. Then rein in those huge corporations they have no heart or conscience so they do not care how much damage they do to people or the environment and they have so much control when they are found out they do not even get a slap on the wrist. Ask anyone near any of the oil or other contaminating spills. If the oil in Alaska is mined it should be done by Alaskans for Alaska I would be happy is they used the permanent fund to do it. We need to get rid of government handouts.

If we got rid of the no bid contracts, stopped paying Haliburton and friends $25.00 for each and every paper plate they send to the solders in the Middle East, cut the military secret black opps which gets millions or probably billions by now (and who knows where all that money really goes as it's a secret- it probably goes into someone's pocket or is spent in ways most of us would feel is despicable- injecting people with syphilis or evil mind control experiments for instance) Then, and I know this is a real stretch- but then if we started minding our business and stopped policing the world and brought our troops home to do stuff like guard the borders or patch failing bridges we might save enough to keep SS and medicare. We could come out of debt even faster if we stopped giving food stamps, bilingual teachers, medical care, SS and other assistance to every bum who comes illegally slithering across our borders when no one is looking. Stop giving billions to other countries.

I agree that Don Young has been there in WDC for too long; but am very glad he has abandoned the RHINO/liberal leaning stance to vote and stand for reduction in spending. Whatever amount of taxes that is decided upon will not make any difference if spending continues at the same rate, allowing the oppressive Federal government to continue its drunken sailor mentality destroying the economy. Changes to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security may not be possible without some serious cuts. But I for one will tell you, I will sacrifice all my medicaid, medicare and Social Security benefits if this can be the last day of Owebama. Please everyone this country needs serious help and we need to be together if we expect to see America continue to be a great country.

Government is set up in the first place for the protection of personal property. The wealthy have more personal property to protect. They should pay a proportional amount. If the CEO is making 400 times as much as his average worker, he probably has 4,000 times as much personal property - he should pay 4,000 times as much to have his personal property protected. To argue that the wealthy create jobs is incorrect. With the current tax scheme they actually destroy many more jobs than they create because most of their savings go into financials but at the same time, those people with less capital but better ideas and a better work ethic get shut out of the market. If you support a free and fair market, support higher taxes for the wealthy.

Everything could be solved with a consumption tax. Everything you buy has a fixed tax associated with the purchase. We would recoup money from people who dont want to pay their fair share or drug dealers and their associates. This would do away with the Tax system/IRS and everyone will pay thier fair share. This richer want a more expensive car they pay more tax. There would be no loop-holes

Another comment: The Rich are NOT paying their fair share. In a lot of cases they pay NOTHING. The Republicans are so willing to end medicare and cut education and other essential programs just so they can give more to their big business and rich friends. Trickle down economics does not work. The Bush tax cuts DID NOT create jobs or help the economy, they just drove up the debt. Bush didn't have to raise taxes for his two illegal wars or his give-aways to the rich - he simply borrowed the money from the Chinese. Get your facts straight, perhaps some of you should turn off the Fox news channel and stop listening to that idiot Rush - do some independent research on your own for the love of God.

Don Young is towing the Republican line, which according to all recent polls has about 20% support across America. Americans DO NOT support the gutting of Medicare, Medicaid, and Social security in order to give more tax breaks and taxpayer money to the filthy rich. It's time that we DO raise taxes on the top wage earners. We have to pay down our debt and it's time these people pay their fare share. Why should regular working class people have to continue to be the slaves of the rich and the multi-national corporations? End the Bush tax cuts, get out of the now three idiot wars, and stop borrowing money from the Chinese! And no more bale-outs for the effin' banks and wall street. Regulate these criminals so they will stop speculation which has created higher than high gas prices. I supported Don Young when he refused to vote for the two huge give-aways: The Bush stimulus and the Obama stimulus to the banks and wall street. But now he's just not realistic.

Hey AK_EW. Get a job making 2,000,000 and quit crying because someone has more than you. America was not formed to be a socialist society where the rich takes care of the poor. This country was created to get away from that type of mentality. Fair is fair. If I pay 20 dollars for a pair of shoes, should you pay 80 because you have more money. That's how our tax system is designed. The rich pay more for the same services you and I get. It's unfair and Un American. FLAT Tax is the answer. The rich will pay more. It's not about what someone can afford. That's called "Punishment for success".

A federal value added tax of 3% would change our nations current fortunes rapidly. The NY Times reported indoor pot growers are responsible for 1% of electricity use in the united states. The 1% is generating billions upon billions of dollars, that in turn go into the shadow economy as nontaxable. And thats just Marijuana! There are billions of dollars spent in America daily, gained through illicit means, that could be taxed at the register through federal V.A.T Reduce the tax burden to 32% of income. And add a national value added tax of three percent. We are at 35% of taxable income now, this would spread the burden equally, lower payroll taxes, and capture income otherwise lost to the shadow economy. The only problem D.C would have with this solution is it can actually work and produce results. And such solutions have been traditionally anathema in Washington D.C

Stan: I love the idea of a flat tax. Sounds perfect, right? Everyone shares an equal financial stake in our budget, and there's no bias. That's not exactly true though. A person who makes $20,000 a year and a person who makes $2,000,000 a year have very different financial realities. 35 percent of 2 mil. still leaves you with 1.3 million dollars, which is enough money to buy what you need and a hell of a lot more. 15 percent of 20,000 is three thousand dollars, which, when you're making a wage that puts you below the poverty line, can make all the difference in the world. That's a year's worth of car insurance, or groceries, or a lot of things. The current state of the country is proof enough that trickle down isn't working. The rich shouldn't be punished for their success, but we should remember how blessed we are to live in a country that allows 10 % of the population to control 90 % of the wealth when so many are suffering from the results of negligent fiscal policy.

Don Young is part of the problem when it comes to outsourcing American jobs. He encourages moving American jobs offshore at a time when we are suffering from high unemployment, when multinational companies should be discouraged from doing this by tariffing their imports to the United States. The collected tariff/tax could be used to subsidize domestic small buisness, and in addition would discourage the outsourcing.

If the democrats would not be so willing to offer services to everyone including illegal imigrants, and the republicans were willing to understand that the rich do need to pay there fair share, not just to support our economy then this country would prosper beyond belief. However GOP = keep the rich rich and the democrats believe we have to save the world.

I only wish I were rich but my interactions with people both poor as well as more wealthy have shown that people who have more tend to give more. People with less have tendencies to be ummm stingy with what they have. So when it comes time to find tax loopholes you can bet your last buck the lower income guy is going to do whatever they can to not pay.

Most people forget that FDR is the one who really began the upward spiral in the income tax. The numerous social programs he funded were supposed to pull America out of the Great Depression. They didn't. It was the creation of jobs brought on by WWII that got America back on its feet. Increased taxes do not create jobs, nor do they improve the economy. Promising to tax "The Rich" is, and always has been, a ploy to get votes from people who do not understand economics, and do not take the time to learn their own history.

I don't know where you got all your information, but in most cases the Rich folks have so many loopholes that in fact they pay very little taxes. And most of those the keep employed are either Illegal Aliens, or people in other countries, because they have outsourced the jobs to China, India, Pakastan or any number of other countries.

Multinational corporations should be selectively tariffed on goods imported to the United States (to include the companies that were once American and have now spread throughout the world), taking the collected tariffs and injecting into the domestic small business community to offset the effects of the outsourcing of American jobs, discouraging outsourcing and building domestic small business from within. The subsidy of select small businesses would allow for the competition against much larger corporations enabling them to survive.

Seems fair to me. I been paying for America's Infrastructure for 40 years!
