ANCHORAGE—The Anchorage district attorney's office says it is asking a judge to increase by tenfold the bail amount for a local cab driver accused of raping a woman he picked up in the Ship Creek area.

Prosecutors claim a magistrate should have set a much higher bail amount than the $5,000 originally handed down for Chidiebere Nwokorie, a 43-year-oldYellow Cab driver who has been charged with three counts of sexual assault after police say he picked up a woman walking alone last week and took her to a secluded area trying to rape her.
Assistant district attorney Brittany Dunlop says a combination of public outcry and an assessment by many, including officers from the group Standing Together Against Rape, that the original bail amount was too low, caused her office to seek the higher bail amount of $50,000.

The issue will be addressed Wednesday.

Nwokorie remains out on bond, but he will have to appear in court for two separate hearings.

Too late .. now it just seems vindictive... if he is still here .. the pillory and time he will receive will be enough.... I would not want to be the next guy either... there is going to be a judicial backlash over this ... I am sure the embarrassment runs deep in the DA's Office and whatshisname is off to magistrate siberia for retraining.. any increase in bail should be matched ten dollars per day in jail by the magistrate.. close to 400 days there... the magistrates won't be able to 'phone-it-in' as they do now

Can you advise Palmer DA to quit listening to the Palins in regards to a rape case in 2006 that Frank Murkowski ordered that they dropped the ball at??? money was a factor as to not have to give it back to the RIGHT owner...so they kept that situation busy by NOT charging a rapist with rape of children times two kids.. MONEY MONEY MONEY...was it worth it??? Word is the feds are re-opening cases with the Palins and their violations of ethics...kids suffer but what do they care???

Anyone effected by the violent crimes and the lack of officials to prosecute can be filed on line by accessing the WhiteHouse website and scroll down to Office of Civil Rights and file an online complaint. The more they know the more they can send investigators to Alaska to interview those effected by any and all biased actions taken by officials in Alaska.
