Dispatch Seeks To Ring Bob Bell (UPDATED)Online news site posts series of stories attacking Republican Senate candidateANCHORAGE - One Senate candidate says a news organization has made him its number one target for defeat next Tuesday. Bob Bell, a former member of the Board of Game, saw more accusations on Tuesday that he has violated game regulations. The attack came in the on-line Alaska Dispatch, this time courtesy of former state wildlife biologist Rick Sinnott. Sinnott bases his accusations on Bell's own book, “Oh No, We're Gonna Die.” Bell said, "Those books are books of humor that I wrote about hunting trips and fishing trips, etcetera, that I went on over the last 40 years. And I readily admit that we embellished those stories. That was the whole idea. The idea was humor. I mean, the name of the book is, 'Oh No, We're Gonna Die.' Just the name itself is humor." But Bell doesn't see anything funny about the stream of articles and opinion pieces about him in the Dispatch over the past couple of weeks. He says the Dispatch tried to create news about a musk ox hunt he went on in 2010. "They brought it up, they reported it to state troopers, the state troopers investigated and find that we didn't do anything wrong, and what's their response? Well, the state troopers are corrupt, too, because they work for the governor. I mean, it just never stops. I think that they don't have any credibility. I think they're muckrakers, and I think people should just ignore what they have to say." Bell, a Republican, says he suspects the issue is that the Dispatch favors his opponent, Democratic Senator Hollis French, who defends the oil production tax that Bell says needs reform. "I'm keeping a positive campaign. I'm not doing a negative campaign. I'm not going to make accusations against Hollis French that I don't know to be true I have no proof that he's part of this, so I'm not going to say he is." Whatever the motive, the Dispatch is shining a candle on Bell and his book. Sinnott declined comment. Dispatch Editor Tony Hopfinger did not respond to a request for comment. Bell says a recent investigation by the state troopers that was spurred by the Dispatch has been closed and he was allowed to keep a pair of musk ox horns that were at issue.' UPDATE, Thursday, Nov. 1: CBS 11 News called Bob Bell Thursday morning and gave him five minutes' notice that we wanted to see the musk ox horns he got from an artist in Nome. The Alaska Dispatch and Sen. Hollis French have alleged that Bell removed the horns from the game management unit without destroying their trophy value, which would be a crime because it was a subsistence hunt in 2010 that Bell was on. Bell says he left the horns with the artist and does not know that these are the same ones. Here are three photos of the horns. Does the public know that the troopers are trained to visually see a moving vehicle and tell how fast the vehicle is moving up to 150 MPH. I know this is so because a trooper sat in a court room and testified under oath to it. Fortunately the jury didn't believe him either.

Nice republican slant McAllister. Its ironic the piece is about unbalanced reporting when this piece is singularly unbalanced. And Bell, I live in your district. I want to see the horns. Sure seems like you're trying to hide something to me. And who says the Troopers closed the case do to lack of merit? How do we know the Governor didnt order the case closed? Didnt the Governor talk you into running Mr. Bell? Too many questions, too few answers.

I like the bias on both sides...liberals have all the answers, right, that is why Obama failed to revive the nation. Oh, and the Unions can donate til the cows come home, but if a conservative group does...they are so evil and want too crush the middle class for the rich...people get a life and see that power players play you lke a fiddle...poorly.

Just in time for Halloween- a true Witch Hunt! The Dispatch is nothing more than a liberal rag and Rick Sinnott is nothing more than a retired wildlife nuisance officer, calling him a biologist is a stretch. Both the AK Troopers and the Dept. of Fish and Game investigated Bob Bell’s musk ox hunt and both agencies concluded he did nothing wrong. Bob Bell is viciously being attacked by Hollis French and his cronies because Mr. French cannot run on his record, sounds like the presidential election!

Why didn't McAllister do a little work and ask Bell the appropriate questions like, Why won't you show us the horns? Anybody willing to take 15 minutes to look into this objectively will quickly discover that Bell broke the law, and then lied about it. Of course, those who already have their minds made up will remain unconvinced, regardless of the evidence. As for McAllister, he's just is a hack.

you ask why Obama can't FIX it in four years? Well those dang darn RobPublicans are wrenches in the gears and that is the way they orchestrated it on election day in 2008...bellowing in their bourbon that a black man will be President...get a gurney... Well now it's going to backfire with the Koch Brothers thinking they can BUY their way in Alaska...good luck...

"TruthSquad": If you were really interested in the truth instead of spewing biased vitriol, you'd know that there is no such thing as a state "wildlife nuisance officer." I have a bachelor's and master's degree in wildlife management and biology. I was a wildlife biologist for approximately 20 of the 29 years I worked for the state. I was the Anchorage area biologist for the last 16 years, responsible for wildlife management in an area almost as large as Delaware, most of it not urban. And I carried a peace officer badge and enforced state fish and wildlife regulations, which is more to the point here. As long as we're getting the truth out, how about telling us who you are so we can judge your credentials.
