ALASKA - A Denali Park grizzly is showing just how tough Alaska bears really are.

It's been affectionately named "Tripawed."

Officials believe he is a young male grizzly, and he showed up at the park entrance last year with a bloody stump, where his right front paw used to be.

But even after a tough winter, the bear is back hanging out near the Savage River area.

Park rangers said he has been spotted many times this year jumping around on his three good legs. They said his severed foot seems to have healed well.

"He sort of lays down on the side of the paw that's missing, and digs with the other,” said Pat Owens.

So far Tripawed seems to be staying near the park's entrance.

Rangers said they are considering posting signs about the bear in the area so they don't have to keep answering the same questions about the bear's health.
