Defluoridation Debate Flows Into AnchoragePalmer has joined Fairbanks and Juneau to become the latest Alaskan city to stop the practice of adding fluoride to its drinking water. Is Anchorage next?
Palmer has joined Fairbanks and Juneau to become the latest Alaskan city to stop the practice of adding fluoride to its drinking water. The switch has some residents questioning whether Anchorage should do the same.
Anchorage is one of the few cities that has no naturally occurring fluoride in its drinking water, which is why the city has added it for the last 30 years. Some people question fluoride’s health benefits and whether it’s fair to give people something they have no say over. Dentist John Walsh says he has no doubt that fluoride can have negative health effects, but he’s more concerned with people’s rights. “As far as informed consent is concerned, we have no choice as to whether we have it in the water or not,” says Walsh, who would like to see Anchorage abandon the practice. But the majority of dentists disagree. The American Dental Association, as well as the Centers For Disease Control, say many studies show that fluoride is both safe and effective. Local dentist Julie Veerman says without fluoridated water, children get more cavities. “It's inexpensive and it helps everyone,” says Veerman. “Even for those who never see a dentist it is beneficial.” Any changes to Anchorage drinking water regarding fluoridation would have to come from the Anchorage Assembly. Assemblywoman Harriet Drummond says she is looking into the controversy but has yet to form an opinion on whether fluoride belongs in Anchorage’s drinking water. |

there was a study done on 20 cities...20 with fluoridation and 10 without....the 10 cities with fluoridation had significantly higher rates of cancer the years following the introduction of fluoride into their water supply. Flouride builds up and is stored in the body for a period of time so we have to look at the bigger picture and the greater affect it has on human being instead of a single benefit. I hope that our representatives will have the wisdom to hear scientific research and results and make the right choice...or at least give us a choice...

It was originally an ANT poison. Sweet to the tase. Didn't do the job.Inventor would loose millions if it wasn't used for something. SO the crooks, lying rats decided to put it in our water supply (50s). We are slowly being poisoned to death. Causes aalot of the health problems we ahve today.RESEARCH THIS.....

Anchorage should follow other towns. One it is cheapper to one day to have dentiset (ms) florid the kids theeth once a yr, that to put it in the water. Even China will not put it in the water. They know it will drop the kids IQ like a rock. Floride is one of the most tockes (ms) know to man. It is woese than the kids doing drugs. I hope you get a damnn spell check on this.

There are many large scientific studies to show that drinking fluoridated water has no positive effect on cavity reduction and to show that it causes cancer, thyroid damage, broken hips, lowered IQ and other health problems. The best source for scientific information on fluoridation can be found here: (www.fluoridealert.org). You will see a petition signed by almost 4000 professionals, including several hundred dentists, several hundred doctors, medical researchers, and others calling on governments everywhere to stop fluoridation.

Fluoridation is a violation of the Nuremberg code which states, "The voluntary consent of the human subject is absolutely essential. This means that the person involved should have legal capacity to give consent; should be so situated as to be able to exercise free power of choice, without the intervention of any element of force, fraud, deceit, duress, over-reaching, or other ulterior form of constraint or coercion" Fluoride affects the brain folks, it blocks iodine uptake in the thyroid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkJuWLMaoG0 This leads to an iodine deficiency, the leading preventable cause of mental retardation world wide. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iodine_deficiency This dumbing down only benefits those who are in power. All large scale studies that have ever been done show that water fluoridation has no benefit on reducing cavities. Ingested fluorides do cause fluorosis in 41% of adolescents in the US, which benefits the lucrative business of cosmetic dentistry.

I tell you what. when i moved to germany 5 years ago, i seen 3 dentist there for my problem. they all came up with the same conclusion and said that fluoride caused my problems. plus, they said it was illegal to use in germany, stating that hitler used it on the jews to make the docile and passive .
