A baby polar bear cub is now on display to the public at the Alaska Zoo, and you may want to visit her soon because she won’t be staying long.

The cub was rescued from the North Slope last month where wildlife officials believed her mother had abandoned her. Since then the mother has been spotted but biologists say the chances of a successful reunion are slim.

Estimated at about six months old, the cub has been growingly steadily at the Alaska Zoo. She’s gained nearly 30 pounds in the six weeks since she arrived and has now been allowed out of the infirmary for limited visits with the public who delight in watching her play.

You can see the cub from 11 a.m. to noon every day and again from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Alaska Zoo.

Fish and wildlife officials say she will be headed to a zoo in Louisville, Ky., some time this summer probably in a matter of weeks.
