An attorney for Fairbanks militia leader Schaeffer Cox is asking a federal judge to dismiss illegal weapons charges against the “2-4-1” suspect.

In a brief filed Monday, attorney Nelson Traverso says Cox had planned on leaving the state in February to avoid arrest on an unrelated charge, but was stopped by FBI informant Gerald “JR” Olson.

Olson had agreed to investigate Cox in return for a lighter sentence on a previous fraud charge, and Traverso claims the informant incited Cox to plan attacks against the government for his own personal interests.
