Costumed Kids Trick or Treat Early In The Name of Charity

Trick or Treat in the Heat started when young Ian Robbins wished to go trick-or-treating one last time before he died of leukemia.

Kids got to dress up in their favorite costumes without the layers of coats, snow pants and gloves typically required for an Alaskan Halloween. It’s called Trick or Treat in the Heat and it gives kids a chance to collect candy for a good cause.

Dressed as fairy princesses, pandas and super heroes, costumed kids sported ten-dollar wristbands giving them access to oodles of candy while simultaneously raising money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation, Seattle Ronald McDonald House, and Hospice of Anchorage.

One hundred percent of the night’s proceeds go to organizations that helped young Ian Robbins with his care before he died of leukemia. Trick or Treat in the Heat started when Ian wished to go trick-or-treating one last time before his death.

Now in its sixth year, the block party has become bigger every year.

“It's just fun. It's a worthy cause, it's great to see the kids in real costumes particularly in Alaska without all their snow gear and snow boots and they actually look like little children dressed in Halloween costumes,” said neighbor Rena Bower.

The folks behind Trick-or-Treat in the Heat plan to expand the event to more neighborhoods.
