CHUGIAK - Hundreds of friends, family and kindhearted strangers went to Chugiak Elementary School Wednesday evening to support one little boy with a very big disease.
Six-year-old Ethan Fleetwood is fighting neurofibromatosis. In March the Fleetwood family made a journey to Chicago to remove parts of tumors in his neck and arm.
The relatively unknown procedure cost the family over $100,000. Ethan's teachers decided to help by throwing a fundraiser that involved everything from face painting to cupcake bingo to both live and silent auctions.
Items ranging from Alyeska passes to a Mustang convertible were auctioned off to help contribute to Ethan's large medical bills.
"It's pretty overwhelming," said father Steve Fleetwood. "I just want to thank everyone involved."
The fundraiser brought in around $9,000, according to Ethan's mom, Lela.
