ANCHORAGE - Campbell Elementary School in Anchorage took donations to help the children of Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut.
On Thursday students organized a teddy bear drive. By mid-afternoon they’d collected more than two-dozen stuffed animals. Students said it’s a way to show Sandy Hook students kids around the country are thinking about them.
“One school that has a tragedy like that happen should have all schools help,” said sixth grade student Kyle Aldridge-Mejia.
While there’s no set goal, Aldridge-Mejia said he’d like the community to help them hit 2,000 bears.
Campbell Elementary has donation boxes set up at a number of partner businesses around Anchorage including Sara’s Sandwiches, Village Inn on Dimond and Gallos Mexican Restaurant on Arctic.
The teddy bear drives run through January 11.
