Officers with the Anchorage Police Department’s Special Victims Unit (SVU) have arrested a community service patrolman for raping a 51-year-old woman, but police say there may be other victims.

Police said Dwight Samuel O’Connor, an 11-year member of the Anchorage Public Safety Advisory Commission and 16-year member of Westside Community Patrol, was arrested Thursday afternoon on a first-degree sexual assault charge and taken to the Anchorage jail, without bail.

Police said O’Connor had given the woman a ride at 5:15 a.m. Thursday near Northway Mall. Instead of taking her home, though, she told police he took her inside a trailer on a nearby worksite, where he raped her. She was then driven out of the area and immediately reported the incident, police said.

The woman told police she didn’t know who the man was, but SVU investigators said they had identified the man as O’Connor by mid-afternoon. Police questioned him at APD headquarters and served search warrants on him and at the crime scene.

He will be arraigned on Friday at 2:30 p.m.

SVU detectives said O’Connor might have sexually assaulted other women in the past. Police are asking those victims to call APD’s SVU at 786-8530.
