Coast Guard to Help Get Fuel to NomeWill help Russian tanker reach iced-in NomeThe US Coast Guard’s only operating icebreaker will help a Russian ship bring fuel to iced-in Nome. The cutter, Healy, was finishing up its seven month research trip when it got the call to help the Russian tanker Renda break through 300 miles of ice to Nome. Early sea ice buildup forced the last fuel barge of the season to bypass Nome. The Healy will help the Russian tanker reach Nome to offload 1.5 million gallons of diesel fuel – enough to hopefully get the town through the worst winter months.

The cutter in the video is actually one of the NSC's. Not the Healy or Haley but this station should feel ridiculous either way.

The cutter in the video is not the CGC Healy (WAGB-20), The Healy is a large, red icebreaker. The cutter in the video clip I believe is the CGC Alex Haley. Among the numerous differences between the Healy and the Alex Haley is the fact that the Alex Haley is not an icebreaker, and they have not already been deployed for 7 months. Very Respectfully, Crew Member, CGC Healy WAGB 20
