City Plans Upgrades to Eight Local Parks

More than a million dollars will be spent on renovations

ANCHORAGE - Some neighborhood parks in Anchorage will be getting major makeovers this summer. The city has identified eight parks that need repair and has more than a million dollars to spend on fixing them up.

Some of parks have playground equipment that may need to be replaced, but City Park Superintendent Holly Spoth-Torres said some will literally be redesigned from the ground up.

“Three of these parks have more money to actually do complete playground renovations,” said Spoth-Torres. "We aren’t just doing small fixes but we are doing larger playground renovations in the area of 200- to 300-thousand dollars.”

Funding for the project comes from a mix of public and private funds and is not part of the regular Parks and Rec budget. Neighborhood volunteers are also encouraged to pitch in and help once the renovations get underway.
