The federal holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is right around the corner, and Wednesday Mayor Dan Sullivan made it clear that Anchorage will be remembering the principles that Dr. King stood for as well.

The mayor presented a special award to the Reverend Alonzo Patterson, who has helped lead the celebrations in Alaska for years.

He also read a proclamation to show support for the federal holiday.

Here in Anchorage, there will be a free community-wide celebration to honor Dr. King this Sunday – it starts at 3 p.m. at the Egan Center.

Then on Monday, that’s the federal holiday. The Alaska Bar Association is providing a day of service in Dr. King’s honor by offering free legal advice.
