ANCHORAGE - House Speaker Mike Chenault is doubling down on his bill to prevent federal officials from enforcing gun restrictions in Alaska.

Although some people believe the bill is in violation of the supremacy clause of the U.S. Constitution, Chenault presented an even tougher version to the House Judiciary Committee Friday.

Now not only would it allow for the arrest of federal officers trying enforcing gun laws, it provides that they would be charged with a felony.

"The original bill had a Class B misdemeanor,” Chenault aide Tom Wright told the committee. “We heard from many, many people throughout this state that they'd like to have it a Class C felony. So that's why we included it in here."

The committee did not vote on Chenault's bill. But it did pass a resolution by Representative Charisse Millett calling on president Obama and Congress to back off on proposals to restrict gun ownership.

What a waste of time. Federal law trumps state law here, period. Since Chenault clearly doesn't understand this basic principle, it's fair to call him a blithering idiot who is unworthy of the office he was somehow elected to.

Brian's hatred of Chenault shows right through. Stick to commenting on the story and leave your extreme poverty of intellect to yourself.

Fed laws trump state laws, youmean if the feds feel like enforcing them right? like the doper laws and "medicinal" doper stuuf, and illegal alien laws, etc, etc.

Federal Law does NOT trump state law if the Federal Law tries to over ride the CONSTITUTION!Thats what washington is attempting to do. Tell them to kiss off. Naturally the drones they have lined up will try and kill you.
