ANCHORAGE—The 43-year-old Yellow Cab driver accused of raping a woman in his taxi was behind bars Wednesday afternoon after a judge raised his bail amount.
Anchorage Superior Court Judge Bob Linton raised Chidiebere Nwokorie’s bail from $5,000 to $50,000. “I conclude that in assessing the dangerousness of your conduct that is alleged here, that there is a difficult task for a judge to predict what might happen in the future,” Linton said. “But if there were to be a repetition of this conduct, the results to the victim would be so grave.” The district attorney's office asked for the increased bail amount after dozens of people called, outraged over what they said was too low of a bail amount. Nwokorie is facing three felony sexual assault charges after Anchorage police say he attacked a woman last Sunday after picking her up in the Ship Creek area and taking her to a secluded area. Police say the woman ran from the cab, clothes in hand, and flagged down a driver for help. She attended Nwokorie’s combined bail hearing and arraignment via telephone. “I would just like to say that $5,000 cash or corporate bail for a crime of this nature is unheard of, and it's so unorthodox,” she said, via speakerphone. “And if we're just going to start letting people go on this type of bail, then I think that a lot of people are going to lose faith in the justice system.” |

Well that doesn't suprise me...Trooper Wooten had a rapist in his custody after pulling a gun and threating to kill his wife...and then considering the DNA that solved a 20 year case was his brother tells me someone did not want him in jail and who is Wooten connected to at that time was Sarah Palin herself...just ask the Palmer DA why they would not prosecute a child rapist of not one but two children...one child since age 4 to 14 and she thought it was normal...and a male in the shower for about 3 yrs...lovely justice system we have in Alaska.. Least populated and highest in revenue but we are NUMBER ONE in the nation for rape... What is wrong with that formula Parnell... What if your kids got raped...ask God to forgive them hu?? hows that gonna work out in a court of law soon??? wait and see...stay tuned folks its not over yet...THANKS TO FRANK! Remember that now...might have been a fat cat who liked his jet but mess with children and he came undone and fixed it good...Thanks Frank!

The bail if fine.. But.... The third party rule that Alaska is constantly imposing on the citizens is flagrantly unconstitutional.
