According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, it's going to be a lot harder to find a legal moose bull on the Kenai Peninsula.

New laws will restrict hunters to bulls that only have antlers of at least 50 inches or four or more brow tines on one side.

The state made the rules because of recent low numbers of bull to cow ratios in parts of the peninsula.

Hunters will also be required to have the antlers inspected and sealed by Fish and Game within 10 days of the kill.

Of course you will have low bull to cow ratios when you hunt only bulls..How simple..

good news for the bears and wolves who outnumber the moose 20 to 1.when will they have an open season on the brown bear like they do the black bear and thin them down so that moose populations will increase.

Went hunting 2 weeks ago on the Kenai. Saw twice as many adult brown bears as adult black bears. The browns were much bigger than the blacks. Reduce the brown bear population and you will increase the moose population without restricting moose hunting. All the hunters guides will be much happier with the same result.

Looks like it's time to cut out the non-resident hunters.

Unfortunately this is why I gave up hunting. I still love the idea of going out for moose but with limited resources and very few places to hunt it just became almost impossible unless I could get a drawing hunt. Then, of course I never won the hunts I really wanted so I just stopped. Now, I'd love to go Brown bear hunting on the Kenai - that would seem to be a beneficial hunt both to me and a management benefit to the area. I guess that makes sense, and that's why it will never happen...
