ANCHORAGE - Two lower Hillside brothers are behind bars, accused of molesting multiple children.
Investigators said Mark and Craig King could have been sexually assaulting children since the 1970s.
Mark King, 56, and his brother Craig King, 54, had easy access to their victims, according to the Anchorage Police Department. They said both the children and their parents knew and trusted the men.
“Unfortunately, [in] these kinds of incidents people do tend to keep them quiet,” said Detective Cindi Stanton. “Don’t keep it quiet. Really what happens is a long-term effect on the victim. The child victim that becomes an adult and has issues at that point in time.”
Two victims have developmental disorders. All of them are younger than 15, most younger than 13, and up to as young as 3 years old.
“We had an anonymous tip and there was concern,” said Stanton. “This has happened before with the other brother and so we got names and phone numbers to these now-adult women.”
The older brother, Mark King, is facing 13 counts of sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl for two years.
Police said he was arrested in September when the girl told a school official.
Mark King admitted to those crimes, but he blamed his victim.
Craig King, who is facing 17 counts, was arrested in 1985 for sexual abuse of a minor, but those charges were dropped, according to charging documents.
“National statistics [show that] once we finally get a victim to disclose, suspects have up to 107 other victims of various levels of perpetration,” said Stanton. “I believe they probably have many other victims.”
Investigators said the abuse may have begun as early as the '70s, and are looking for other victims to come forward.
