FAIRBANKS — A child bicyclist ran into a truck late Friday morning, injuring himself, according to police.

The boy had been seen playing in a playground on Noble Street and 12th Avenue on his orange Mongoose bike, according to Sgt. Bruce Barnette of the Fairbanks Police Department. Witnesses said they saw him trying to jump the curb when he ran into a 2008 Ford F350 on 12th Avenue. The truck’s rear tire drove over the bike.

The driver didn’t see him because she was trying to avoid a van on the side of the road, police said. She told officers she was driving no more than 15 mph, which another witness confirmed, when she heard a thump. She looked out her rear view mirror and saw the child.

The boy didn’t remember what happened, according to a police officer’s notes.

He was taken to the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for a possible skull fracture, according to police.
