FAIRBANKS - It may be several days before a medical examiner will be able to confirm the identities of two people killed in a fire over the weekend, but the village’s radio director and his wife are presumed dead because the fire occurred at their house and they have not been seen since, according to the Galena city manager.
Fire and an explosion were reported at about 9 p.m. at the home of radio station KIYU’s manager Terry Fair and his wife, Kim. The state fire marshal has been conducting interviews in their investigation into the cause of the fire and explosion, Galena city manager Greg Moyor said Monday.
Moyor said he heard the explosion himself and heard from others that the flames preceded the explosion.
Fair was known to Yukon village radio listeners as “Shadow Steel” and had worked at the station for 12 years, greatly expanding the station’s reach during his tenure.
The two bodies recovered from the house are expected to arrive in Anchorage today with autopsies expected Tuesday, said Tim DeSpain, spokesman for the Alaska State Troopers.
