Begich on Payroll Tax Cut ExtensionSenator, delegation praise last-minute passageSenator Mark Begich got the news the payroll tax extension was being passed just as he was touching down in Anchorage Thursday afternoon. He held a press conference just a short time after that, saying he’s glad that House Republicans finally saw the light. Begich says the entire Alaska delegation worked to try and get House members to agree to an extension, but he also says average citizens made a difference as well. “Instead of politicians just arguing over this, it was all over the country, and from our state and across the state, calling into our office, to other offices, to friends they knew to say this is important,” Begich said. Senator Lisa Murkowski says she’s pleased the two-month extension went through and hopes that Congress can now work toward a longer agreement. Congressman Don Young said he too was pleased at the extension but disappointed at the wait it happened. |

We are the losers with less money going into our social security. Begich does not have a horse in the race with his legislation. If the senate had social security this might not have happened. But the senate has their own program and insider training access so they can "give us a "good deal" now".

Yea, the senate did an exceptional job...passed legislation for a two-month extension verse legislation that would have given a one year extension to the program. Not that it really matters -- it isn't going to help the economy. People, if you don't get it, this is going to bite you when you start getting social security...that is where this tax money should be going. What Senator Begich should be doing, but isn't, fighting for an overall of the federal income tax in total. Something he says he is for, but fails to press for in the senate.
