In a downtown courtroom Monday, the 19-year-old woman who was arrested for the hit-and-run death of a 28-year-old man on the Tudor overpass.

Ashley Bashore’s bail was originally set at $2,500, plus a court-approved third-party custodian. It’s now been increased to $10,000 cash, plus two court-appointed third-party custodians.

Anchorage police arrested Bashore last week on Wednesday, eight months after they say she struck and killed Hubert Tunuchuk on Easter Sunday.

They say she was texting while driving at the time.

Investigators say she deleted all of her text messages, which is considered tampering with evidence. Police say Tunuchuk was hit with such force he flew out of his shoes. According to detectives, instead of stopping to help, Bashore sped away to a friend’s house, where she said she had just “hit a mangy Rottweiler without a collar.”

Bashore was released on the $10,000 bail to the custody of her boyfriend and sister-in-law later Monday.

Heather Nelson, You are obviously missing the point little girl, SHE KILLED A PERSON, then tried to cover it up, didn't report the accident and now she is upset that she was held responsible. I love my friends too, if she was that much of a "caring" (sound of outrageous laughing)girl, then she would have at least called an ambulance for the "mangy rottweiler" I'm sorry, if this had been a middle age man, you would be singing a much different tune!!!

I know ashley bashore from when we were kids, she and i grew up together because she used to live right down the street. None of you have even met her. So for you people to sit there and call this young girl a "grinch-ett" and say she has no value for human life makes me sick. If you met this girl you'd know she'd do anything for a friend, loves animals like crazy, is loyal and a good person who made a mistake and made some bad decisions most likely due to panic. I'm not saying she doesn't deserve to be punished, but this didn't happen to any of you so why would you try to act like you're all so high and mighty. I can't believe the bail was set at only $10,000. I realize it was an accident, due to horrible NEGLIGENCE, but her actions afterward were reprehensible. Her negligence killed a man and her description of it later is disgusting. Rather than crying due to remorse I'd say she's upset because she got caught. That poor family.

$10,000? the crazy little Grinch-ette... did'nt kill him on purpose, but she #1 would'nt have hit him at all if not TEXT driving, & #2 realizing her mistake, treated him like road-kill. the #2 should at least count the same as an assault 4. prayers for the tunuchuk family.
