Assembly members voted Tuesday 8 to 3 to override Mayor Dan Sullivan’s budget veto, announced earlier Tuesday.

The mayor’s veto would have done away with 3 full-time positions in the Parks and Recreation Department, and reduced the department’s budget by $144,000. Sullivan’s plan was to replace the 3 full-time positions with 4 part-time positions, which he said was recommended by the parks director.

Bill Starr and Debbie Ossiander changed their positions on the issue, which gave the assembly the numbers it needed for the veto override.
