ANCHORAGE - Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Army units want people living in Anchorage and the Valley to know not to worry if they hear explosions on JBER -- it's only training. Since Monday JBER's 501st Mortar Platoon has been conducting explosive training to get soldiers prepared for their next mission.

The 36-member unit has been firing off 81-millimeter mortars.

Army officials say even though it is pretty loud, it's vital for their team to get hands-on training.
