The so-called anti-Pebble Mine initiative has passed.

According to the clerk of the Lake and Peninsula Borough, the “Save Our Salmon” initiative passed but only by a "very slim" margin 280 to 246.

The fiercely contested ballot measure blocks any development that poses a significant threat to salmon streams but it was largely publicized as a vote for or against the Pebble gold and copper mine.

Litigation is expected because the state attorney general says it would be unconstitutional for a local ordinance to trump state permitting.
