Anchorage Student Sends Life-Threatening Lyrics to PeersParents of 301 South High School students keep their kids home after another student sends threatening lyrics to his targets.
One South High School student's threatening words, sent from a home computer, contributed to around 300 teens staying out of the classroom on the twelfth anniversary of the Columbine massacre.
The unidentified student was immediately put on an emergency 45-day suspension. “The student is not allowed on any school district premises or to go to any school district activities,” said Anchorage School District Superintendent Carol Comeau. The words the student wrote are riddled with violence and target specific South High School students. One line reads: "He warned them and they thought we were playing. So we bought some black market weapons and started on our plans." One victim, mentioned specifically in the more than five pages of lyrics, has left Anchorage. His mother says she is beside herself. The lyrics are "talking about very, very specifically how he's going to carry out an event and re-enact the Columbine events at South High,” said Lisa Connors, a victim's mother. “I think if an adult had been in that position by writing those lyrics and if they were made public by sending it via email it would be a lot different situation," she continued. ASD officials said an arrest was made, but juvenile authorities released the student to his parents. Police say the student responsible for writing the threatening lyrics has been charged with assault and making terrorist threats. “The individual was asked by a non-school related counselor to share his feelings on paper and get them off his chest—that's how this started. It was never intended to go beyond that, but ultimately it did get shown around to individuals and that's what resulted in some charges today,” said Sgt. Christian Jones of the Anchorage Police Department. School officials said they didn't become aware students actually received the lyrics until eight days later on April 7, that's when the lyrics were brought to the South High School principal. ASD says they're taking the situation very seriously but also say there is no evidence the teen had any intent to carry out the threats. An excerpt from the lyrics reads: "I see across the gym my rivals They're trying to escape through the back Try to escape in the middle of the attack? In seriously offended, so I gun them down I laugh as soon as they hit the ground" With an internal investigation and authorities on campus, school officials are working to ensure the threatening acts won’t be carried out. “The Anchorage Police Department school resource officers will be there in the next few days and if my daughter was going to South High, I would be quite confident,” said Gardner Cobb, director of security and emergency preparedness for ASD. ASD has made sure to alert the parents of South High School students of the situation by sending out a robo-call. “We have to respect the parents if they want to keep their children away from school. We absolutely know that the school is safe,” said Comeau. The lyrics continue: "With over 500 dead, and over 1,000 injured, this is unequivocally the worst school massacre in the history of the U.S." A school assembly is being held on Friday, even though threats were made in the song lyrics involving an assembly. The Anchorage School District has called a meeting for parents of South High School students on Friday to answer any questions or concerns they might have. As of right now, the name of the student who wrote the song lyrics is not being released. |

Ha...when I went to South I prayed to god that someone else would do something like this and actually carry it out so I wouldn't have to. If you knew how much racism and bullying goes on in that school, that goes ignored by the administration and counselors, you would feel the way this kid felt, too. Unless of course you are one of the masses of privileged caucasian children with BMW's and VW's who were never disciplined once in their life. Kids can be cruel; people don't accrue this much hate because people were kind to them. THERE IS NO BEAST WITHOUT CRUELTY.
