ANCHORAGE - At around 2 a.m. on Monday, police Officers Keo Fujimoto and Nathan Keays responded to a disturbance call at an apartment complex in the 1400 block of West 25th Avenue. Police located the subject of the call, 47-year-old Edward Thompson, and during a pat-down to search for weapons, Thompson pulled a knife from his pocket.
The officers struggled with Thompson attempting to control his weapon, but Thompson managed to stab Officer Fujimoto in the leg and wound him on his forehead. Thompson sliced Officer Keays' vest carrier near his neck. A third officer, George Vrablik, arrived to assist but Thompson still didn't release the knife. Only after Keays used his baton to hit Thompson's hand and make him drop the knife.
Officer Fujimoto received stitches for the stab to his leg, and Thompson was treated for broken bones to his hand.
Thompson is charged with first-degree assault, two counts of first-degree attempted assault, resisting arrest and fourth-degree criminal mischief. He's scheduled for arraignment Monday afternoon at 2:30.
