Anchorage Police Officer Jennifer Pierce, 25, was injured Sunday morning in a nearly head-on collision on the Glenn Highway

According to police, Pierce was driving inbound on the highway just after 3:15 am when a gold 2007 BMW crossed over the median, drove through two lanes of oncoming traffic and violently sideswiped her patrol car.

Anchorage Fire Department personnel rescued Pierce, who was pinned inside her vehicle.

The driver of the other vehicle has been identified as 21-year-old Jariss Black

"She has non-life threatening injuries but she does have a very long road to recovery ahead of her. She sustained some pretty severe injuries…hip injuries,” said Anchorage Police Department spokeswoman Marlene Lammers.

If you witnessed this morning's accident or have any information about the case, call Anchorage police at 786-8900.
