ANCHORAGE - The Anchorage Police Department was hard at work Memorial Day weekend hitting the streets and working to control excessive drinking while driving.

But how did it pan out?

Police said Anchorage was not under or above the normal average for the holiday, and they arrested 21 people for driving under the influence. On average, six to seven people are arrested a day for the crime, and 2,700 DUI arrests are made annually in Anchorage.

Municipal officials said this weekend wasn't perfect, but they do think people are starting to get the point that drinking while driving is a dead end.
