If you are planning to make alcohol part of your holiday weekend, beware that Anchorage police will be cracking down on those operating under the influence.

Drunken driving fatalities were down last year thanks in large part officers say to other drivers.

According to APD, in 2010, 45 percent of all OUI arrests were a direct result of someone calling in and reporting a dangerous driver on the road.

In all, more than 2,000 people were arrested for operating vehicles while impaired last year. This year, Anchorage police will continue their crack down.

“Call 911, call the dispatch center…help us out this weekend and we'll try and make this a safe weekend without any fatalities,” said Anchorage Police Chief Mark Mew.

This weekend, the drunk driving enforcement will get a boost courtesy of a federal grant that will add more police officers to the road.

If there were no rules there would be chaos. the REASON for the rules - LAWS is because some one did something wrong in the first place, and innocent people were damaged in some way. Get a grip. Keep your partying at home and then please don't pick up a firearm to demonstrate after you have been d4rinking. Drinking does not lead to good decision making. The gas peddle is like the trigger on a weapon. don't drink and drive.
