Known as “buy local Saturday,” Nov. 26 marked a welcome departure from Black Friday crowds for hundreds of Alaska holiday shoppers.

“You're supporting your community, you're supporting your friends,” said Nancy Nolfi, owner of Pizzazz Fiber Art and one of more than 50 vendors who set up shop at the Anchorage Museum for the museum’s annual craft weekend.

The event featured everything from fine jewelry to textile art and homemade candies and birch syrups.

It’s one of Alaska’s only juried art shows, and vendors are required to submit their work in the spring to make sure every item at the show is handmade in Alaska by Alaskans.

Nolfi sells felted wool mittens made from old sweaters, and crafts decorative pins from spare zippers and buttons.

“Everything is used,” she said, laughing. “And the benefit of being an artist at a show like this is that there are other vendors with beautiful products and you can trade.”

The show continues Nov. 27 from noon to 5 p.m at the Anchorage Museum.
