Anchorage Mayor: City Saved $12M in 2010

Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan gave his state of the city address at the weekly Make It Monday forum today in downtown Anchorage.

Among the topics discussed were the city's savings—$12 million in 2010.

The mayor says the money was used to help property tax payers and fund environmental cleanups at Kincaid Park, Reeve Boulevard and other spots around town.

It also helped fund a police academy.

The mayor said crime across Anchorage has decrease, but aggravated assaults have increased slightly.

Overall, Sullivan said the future of Anchorage looks bright.

“The quality of life in Anchorage, I think, clearly improved just because of the great job our staff is doing maintaining our facilities and making sure that those things that lend to the quality of life in Anchorage are well maintained and accessible to you,” said Sullivan.

He also highlighted a $6 million project that will help renew the Z. J. Loussac Public Library, Sullivan Arena, and other facilities in the next few years.
